Boldon Lawn Tennis Club
Project location: South Tyneside
Project Background Brief:
PPG Projects recently completed an LED tennis lighting upgrade at Boldon Lawn Tennis Club, a six-court club in South Tyneside. Due to the club’s layout, the courts are split into blocks, so PPG Projects used a mix of LTA side lit and corner/side lit lighting schemes to achieve the LTA Recommended Lighting Levels on each court.
LTA side lit and corner/side lit lighting schemes are two of the most common types of lighting used for tennis courts. Side lit schemes place the luminaires on one or both sides of the court, while corner/side lit schemes place the luminaires on the corners and sides of the court. Both schemes provide even and uniform lighting throughout the playing area, which is essential for good visibility for players and spectators.
PPG Projects used high-specification LED luminaires in the upgrade at Boldon Lawn Tennis Club. LED luminaires are more energy-efficient than traditional metal halide lights, so the club can expect to see significant cost savings on energy bills. LED luminaires also produce a brighter, more uniform light that is easier on the eyes, making it ideal for sports and recreation.
The upgrade to LED lighting at Boldon Lawn Tennis Club has been well-received by the club’s members. The new lighting system makes it easier for players to see the ball, even in low light conditions. This has led to an increase in participation and club nights at the club.
Key benefits of LED tennis lighting upgrade:
- Improved energy efficiency: LED luminaires consume significantly less energy than traditional metal halide lights, which will save the club money on its energy bills.
- Better light quality: LED luminaires produce a brighter, more uniform light that is easier on the eyes, making it ideal for sports and recreation.
- Increased participation: The new lighting system makes it easier for players to see the ball, which has led to an increase in participation and club nights at the club.
- Improved visibility for players and spectators: The new lighting system provides even and uniform lighting throughout the playing area, which is essential for good visibility for players and spectators.
