Brentwood School Courage Hall

Project location: Essex, London

Project Background Brief:

Upgrade of existing Lighting in the Courage Sports Hall to ensure suitability for National Level Badminton and Volleyball, in addition to National and International Level Cricket.

The existing lighting offered only 100 LUX, and the upgrade required an increase to 1500 LUX.

The client requested a multi-option control system so that the Lighting levels can be adjusted to suit the appropriate use of the Sports Hall, in which a variety of Sports are played but also used for School performances and examinations.

Particular Challenges:

This project was procured during the COVID-19 lockdown period. High degrees of uncertainty were existent, and careful planning was carried out. We implemented social distancing procedures to align with Government guidelines.

We had to work to tight and strict deadlines to have works completed and vacate site to allow the teaching of pupils to take place within the Courage Hall.

In addition to this, because of severe delays with international cargo, we had to source materials usually imported from China from Germany. This ensured a guaranteed delivery date to allow works to be carried out. Despite the tight timescales, we were pleased to complete ahead of schedule due to strategic planning and competent workmanship.

Special Project Features:

Each luminaire had a “node” fitted which allowed for them to be individually switched and controlled, to enable appropriate lighting and lighting levels for for whatever the purpose of use intended. The control system can be be operated by remotes that were left on-site, but the client can also manage the system through software and integration with booking systems.

The Courage Hall was opened by former England Internationally Footballer Sir Trevor David Brooking, CBE and a former pupil of the School was Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard.
