Carisbrooke Tennis Club
Game, Set, Match
Tennis is more than a game; it’s a symphony of sounds and motions.
The right lighting creates the perfect atmosphere, enhancing both play and viewing experiences.
When Carisbrooke Tennis Club needed upgrades, PPG was ready to deliver innovative solutions.
Serving Up A Brighter Dome
- AGEING EQUIPMENT: Carisbrooke’s air dome relied on six old halide floodlights, notorious for their high energy consumption and slow warm-up times, which significantly hindered performance during matches and practice sessions.
- UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS: The challenge was to install new lights that faced upwards, reflecting off the dome’s interior fabric to ensure even illumination across the courts, a demand that few contractors could meet.
How We Made It Happen
INSTALLATION
Our team safely removed the existing halide fittings while retaining wiring for an efficient upgrade.
SAFETY MEASURES
All work was conducted from a tower scaffold, ensuring compliance with safety standards while minimising disruption.
BESPOKE VISORS
We installed custom front visors to ensure optimal light distribution across the dome’s interior.
NEW LUMINARES
Six new 1200W LED luminaires were fitted on a 1-for-1 basis, enhancing overall lighting quality.
The Tricky Parts
OPTICS
Upward-facing optics required bespoke specifications that several contractors couldn’t source; we sourced the right product quickly.
ACCESS
The dome’s fabric structure limited access options; we utilised tower scaffolding and tight scheduling to maintain court play.
ELECTRICS
Integrating modern LED control gear into the 35-year-old electrics presented challenges, but we resolved them on-site efficiently.
QUOTING
Despite the project’s complexity, we delivered a quote that was 25% cheaper than the next-best offer, ensuring competitive pricing.
In Their Words
“Carisbrooke Tennis Club recently partnered with PPG Projects to upgrade the six halide floodlights in our airdome tomodern LED lighting, and we couldn’t be more satisfied with the results. Our requirement for upward-facing lights presented a challenge that several other companies struggled to meet.
From the outset, Kieran and Darren at PPG distinguished themselves. They were the first to identify the product for our needs, and they delivered it at a price that was 25% cheaper than any other quote we received.
The improvement was immediately noticeable upon installation. Our members have commented on the quality of the newlights, noting a significant enhancement over the old halides. While we encountered some minor teething problems connecting the new system to our 35-year-old electrics, PPG’s team was exceptionally responsive, resolving the issues promptly and efficiently.
Financially, the upgrade has been a great investment. The new LED lights have reduced our energy consumption by 40%,putting us on track for a complete payback in just four years.
Carisbrooke Tennis Club highly recommends PPG Projects for their expertise, competitive pricing, and outstanding customer service.”
