North Dulwich Lawn Tennis Club
Project location: London
Project Background Brief:
PPG Projects carried out an LED Lighting Upgrade at North Dulwich Lawn Tennis Club, across four courts to offer the LTA Recommended Lighting Levels. This was using Philips luminaires from Signify, which was the clubs preference due to exceptional quality and reputation.
The club has four courts, with two blocks of two respectively. The bottom two courts are at a different height to the top two, which meant the team had to carefully choose the appropriate optic/lens on the luminaires to ensure the best possible distribution and aiming, to offer the best possible playing experience om court, with minimal glare.
With North Dulwich hosting a Train Station; Rail Line and a busy residential area, minimising light pollution and spillage was essential.
The LED lighting upgrade at North Dulwich Lawn Tennis Club has been well-received by the club’s members. The new lighting system makes it easier for players to see the ball, even in low light conditions. This has led to an increase in participation and club nights at the club.
Key benefits of the LED tennis lighting upgrade at North Dulwich Lawn Tennis Club:
- Improved energy efficiency: LED luminaires consume significantly less energy than traditional metal halide lights, which will save the club money on its energy bills.
- Better light quality: LED luminaires produce a brighter, more uniform light that is easier on the eyes, making it ideal for sports and recreation.
- Increased participation: The new lighting system makes it easier for players to see the ball, which has led to an increase in participation and club nights at the club.
- Improved visibility for players and spectators: The new lighting system provides even and uniform lighting throughout the playing area, which is essential for good visibility for players and spectators.
- Reduced light pollution and spillage: PPG Projects carefully designed the lighting scheme and used high-quality Philips luminaires to minimize light pollution and spillage, which is important for the surrounding community.
