Stanley House Student Accommodation
Project location: Nottingham
Project Background Brief:
Full mechanical and electrical package for a high-rise and high-specification student accommodation refurbishment. Supply and installation of LV cabling from power supply throughout the communal building and individual apartments.
Benefits
The new LED lighting system at Stanley House offers a number of benefits, including:
- Improved light quality: The new LED lighting system provides a uniform light distribution throughout Stanley House, with high color rendering index (CRI) and low glare. This provides students with an excellent lighting experience, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions.
- Reduced energy costs: LED lighting is significantly more energy-efficient than traditional lighting. The new lighting system at Stanley House is expected to reduce the university’s energy costs by up to 50%.
- Reduced environmental impact: LED lighting produces less heat and fewer greenhouse gases than traditional lighting. This helps to reduce Stanley House’s carbon footprint and protect the environment.
Increased lifespan: LED lights have a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours, compared to 2,000 hours or less for traditional lamps. This reduces the need for regular maintenance and replacement, saving the university time and money.
Particular Challenges:
This project had tight timescales and difficult access arrangements, making logistics on site and planning deliveries a big challenge. The size and volume of cabling required was very high, making the installation labour intensive.
Special Project Features:
This project was located on the same street as Rock City, the UK’s best live music venue and club. In the area PPG Projects were working, the main power supply to Rock City was present, so careful segregation was ensured to distinguish the planned works from effecting the venue’s power.
